"The term 'Bohemian' has come to be very commonly accepted in our day as the description of a certain kind of literary gipsey, no matter in what language he speaks, or what city he inhabits .... A Bohemian is simply an artist or littérateur who, consciously or unconsciously, secedes from conventionality in life and in art." ["Westminster Review," 1862]

this is a fun way to start the new best year of my life. I don't know what it is, but I seem to get connected with CCD sometimes - I like the company!

  • The Mod Pod - surreal estate: by carol lloyd
  • i got an email from robyn dochterman (from the StarTribune article below) asking for a place to go to get her new vintage airstream repaired. i knew it! it's contagious!
  • 2005 is once again the year of the airstream. i've been finding resources for machining and parts fabrication for not only the old airstream, but the 1951 plymouth puller as well. maybe in the next week or so I'll be able to go through this site and give you some new links and updates from my little end of the mod world.
  • speaking of the puller - I've decided on an original nile green paint scheme, a hot rodded flathead 6 (the original motor modified in a traditional style) and bright orange rims via American Hot Rod. pretty sure i'm sticking with the purple interior though. maybe with bright orange piping.
  • with that, i've always planned to put a purple fainting couch in place of the current couch in the airstream. i'm beginning to write some tech articles for the Vintage Advantage 2005 season, but the upholstery one will probably come much later.
  • if the weather gets nice enough in WI this month, I may just head out and grab some parts that need to be replaced, and get them drawn up on CAD for some CNC machining work - then I can play with some fiberglass.

check out these articles:
i'm in these:

  • StarTribune - airstream travel trailer has become an icon of american design: by robyn dochterman
  • core77 - go west (or anywhere, just go!)

i'm not in these:

airstreamBohemia started in 1999 as a resource for vintage airstream restorers when there weren't a whole lot of sites out there. since then, there has been a swelling of the vintage airstream community and there are sites everywhere!

here are some of my favorites:

and resources you might not think would be related to airstream restoration:

  • TMTechnologies - better metalworking tools - sells the tools that Discovery Channel says are "hard to find" on "Motorcycle Mania 2." if Jesse James can use them to build motorcycles, I can use them to fix airstreams.
  • Aircraft Spruce - rivets, metal and other things.

here's what you can look forward to on this site over the next couple of days through the next couple of years.

  • complete documentation of my restoration - a 1960 24' Airstream Tradewind
  • a handbook of bizarre destinations (i still travel even though the trailer's in the garage!)
  • a model reference. Vintage Airstream has the best one so far, hopefully he and I can make a better one together.

bookmark this site and check back often, more to come! thanks for visiting!
